FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT TECHNICIANS
|
|
|

Q.
Do technicians make more money working with ColorAll than they do at a body shop?
A.
Yes, usually 20-30% more (often working fewer hours and less hard)
Q.
Are technicians readily available and why would they come to work for a ColorAll
franchisee?
A. We usually receive a large response from technicians answering the ad in your local paper. The reason is simple - and it’s not because the majority of responses come from the unemployed. Rather, the opposite is true. Most technicians are working but unhappy-unhappy with the conditions that are present in a body shop:
- unhealthy.....unhealthy working conditions
- breathing paint fumes (VOC’s)
- breathing particles from sanding, etc.
- working on concrete surface vs asphalt (foot and back problems)
- heavy collision work (beats up their bodies)
- never get paid on entire job (false or hidden estimates)
- never a steady flow of work (very seasonal in most areas)
- limited on how much they can make
- owner and manager always looking over their shoulder
ColorAll provides technicians with a “ladder” out of this kind of environment which never seems to change, from body shop to body shop.
Q.
What kind of technician turnover do franchisees experience?
A. Some franchisees have had technicians working for them 4 to 5 years. Turnover often takes place in the first 90 days when the franchisee determines that the technician has proven not to be mature and/or responsible in the early going.
Q.
What percentage of completed work do franchisees usually pay technicians?
A. This varies from area to area. ColorAll corporate provides some guidelines but we have franchisees who pay anywhere from 30% to 40% of completed work.
Q.
What is in a technician equipment and supply package?
A. A Tech set-up kit contains 3 basic groups of items which represent everything a technician needs to complete the job. EQUIPMENT, SUPPLIES and MATERIALS. The Tech needs to bring none of his own tools to the job.
Q.
What do technicians do in bad weather, i.e., cold, snow, driving rain, etc.?
A. Although most Franchisees have at least 1 Portable Prep Station (PPS), dealers in areas of extreme weather conditions usually provide suitable space for vendors of all kinds, including ColorAll .
Q.
Do Franchisees provide benefits to technicians?
A. Although most Franchisees provide no direct health insurance or other benefits to technicians, the techs do receive a monthly supply bonus, which gives them an incentive to use their materials in a non-wasteful manner and should be used by the technician for items such as health and/or car insurance.
Q.
What exactly is the monthly supply bonus?
A. It is the amount of money that represents the difference between 10% of the technicians monthly production and the amount he actually uses. (Example: If a technician produces $12,000 per month of completed work, he has a 10% or $1,200 allocation. If he uses $700 in paint and supplies, he would receive the difference, i.e, $500).
